PIGEON RIVER STORIES
Does a relative or someone close to you love telling stories of the Pigeon River? Maybe she or he grew up on the Pigeon in Cocke County, or worked there, or has always been interested in its history and ties to the community.
If you know a community elder who has these stories, holds this history, encourage them to come and share their knowledge with art and crafts sessions with Clean Water Expected in East Tennessee and East TN Artscapes to pass on those precious stories for future generations!
CWEET is seeking a diverse group of Local Elders (seniors,65+) that have a variety of experiences and memories associated with the Pigeon River. These memories can involve baptism, fishing, swimming, picnicking, living, washing, subsisting etc., as long as they are centered around the Pigeon River. CWEET will catalog these Pigeon River stories via a series of art and craft making sessions to be held at East TN Artscapes in Downtown Newport beginning January 2018. In addition we will be making a short documentary of the making process and the events will culminate in an art show to showcase our senior works in the Spring.
Attendance is FREE and transportation can be provided! We request a commitment of one night a week for six weeks total.
All art and craft materials will be provided and no previous skill is required!
This opportunity is ideal for engaging the seniors of our community to socialize together and with different age groups, to engage in craft skill share and create new work, and to record our rich memories of the Pigeon River through oral, art, and craft traditions!
CWEET encourages all interested seniors or family/friends of a potential senior participants to contact Debbie Bahr, Executive Director of CWEET at 865-453-8535 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and an application to participate.
